Edge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>These pieces leave the outer edge of the tree exposed. \u00a0Sometimes the piece of wood screams for this. \u00a0Other times, the surface was just too bland. \u00a0I love making pieces functional so I don&#8217;t leave the bark on very often. \u00a0With some types of trees, the bark is firmly attached and is safe to leave. \u00a0But it is almost impossible to clean after putting food in a bowl. \u00a0This will lead to bad things, so please carefully consider what you are looking for before purchasing or making these kinds of pieces.<\/p>\n<p><img from one piece of Maple Burl. \u00a0The edges can be very sharp, and the bark is almost always removed in the cleaning process. \u00a0Maple burls tend to have a grit, rocks, dirt, etc when we buy them. \u00a0The first step is to power wash the burl, removing all unwanted junk, but also removing the bark.<\/p>\n<p><a 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>\u00a0A piece of red bark eucalyptus with the bark. \u00a0The bark is pretty secure, but you can not pick it up by the bark. \u00a0You will be holding the bark. \u00a0It is a beautiful deep red.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/daves-turned-art.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/carob-ne-vase.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium sizes=\"(max-width: 228px) 100vw, 228px\" \/><\/a>\u00a0This was one of those pieces that screamed at me. \u00a0I knew the moment i saw the log what I wanted to make. \u00a0It is a piece of carob, which frequently has voids, etc. \u00a0It is not often that this tree actually produces large pieces. \u00a0Large trees usually turn out to be several different pieces.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/daves-turned-art.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/sn487-Small.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-106\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>\u00a0 One of the larger pieces of black acacia that I have turned and left the natural edge on.<\/p>\n<p><a sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>\u00a0This natural edge piece was made from a Pepper tree burl. \u00a0This wood can fool you, starting out with some of the most gorgeous pinks and reds, but alas it all fads to brown, and quickly. \u00a0The white sap can cause very bad skin reactions, so turning wet requires wearing nitrile gloves. \u00a0As it dries, it has significant cell collapse. \u00a0In the end, mother nature determines the end result. \u00a0This piece was beautiful, moving in a very interesting way.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>These pieces
