This adds interest to the turnings. \u00a0But the real fun is when you go beyond this. \u00a0Somehow I think I define fun as time consuming!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/daves-turned-art.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/DSC_0874.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-181\" https:\/\/daves-turned-art.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/DSC_0874-1024x685.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I enjoyed Princes work, and made this a tribute to him, &#8220;Purple Haze&#8221;.\u00a0 It was made with Purple Halite, but was not as purple as I had hoped.\u00a0 The wood tone had an affect on the color the eye observed.\u00a0 Still more to alt=\"\" \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/div><\/figure>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n<p>These 2 walnut bowls show 2 different rim accents. \u00a0The one on the left is filled with a green calcite. \u00a0On the right, it is \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/div><\/figure>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n<p>I found this piece of red bark eucalyptus about 2 years before our class. \u00a0What a beautiful piece of wood. \u00a0It immediately reminded me of the ocean waves. \u00a0But, as is true with most crotch pieces, cracked something awful. \u00a0I then carved the cracks and made many new voids to create the froth\/foam from the waves. \u00a0You can see the final piece on the right. \u00a0I hope I can find another piece of wood with this much character.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/daves-turned-art.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/sn476-side.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-79\" src=\"http:\/\/daves-turned-art.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/sn476-side-300x201.jpg\" alt=\"sn476 side\" width=\"300\" height=\"201\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>\u00a0 My daughter loves cats. \u00a0I&#8217;m more of a dog person, but I carved out a cats paw and some claw marks all over the bowl. \u00a0It was a success.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/daves-turned-art.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/2014-Clouds-Large.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-80\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>One day I was outside admiring the sky. \u00a0This was a piece of walnut that had been drying for a few years and was a perfect piece, no voids, no cracks. \u00a0Just not very interesting. \u00a0I carved clouds into it. \u00a0With a light behind it, the translucent stone glows.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/daves-turned-art.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/silver-maple-with-stone-rim-Small.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-25\" src=\"http:\/\/daves-turned-art.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/silver-maple-with-stone-rim-Small-300x209.jpg\" alt=\"silver maple with stone rim (Small)\" width=\"300\" height=\"209\" https:\/\/daves-turned-art.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/silver-maple-with-stone-rim-Small.jpg 690w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>\u00a0This shows the extremes that can be made with a stone rim. \u00a0A beautiful maple figured crotch piece just begged for an accent. \u00a0Learning how to add this was a real learning
