Embellishing pieces can be done either as THE reason for the piece, or as a way of adding interest. Recently we had a demonstration of what is know as “basket illusion”. David Nittmann coined the term, although he did not develop the technique. My first attempt was a plate using a pattern which appears to be a weave.
My next piece used a Southwestern Indian pattern, sorry I haven’t been able to find which tribe it was yet. In this case, the embellishment is only on the outside, with the inside being finished to allow it to be a functional piece. (i need to take a picture)
